New Entry in the Sheep Dog Trials this year?

And here's the really fun stuff for today--for all of you who have seen the movie "Babe", about a sheep herding pig, this little video (is it really real??) will warm your hearts! A very brave bunny and an expert camera person. Anyone want to venture a guess as to the breed of sheep?   Click *HERE* or visit

http://www.youtube.com/user/Duudeabides1 -- it's almost as cute as the sheep "piggy" banks' Great Escape!

Events and Activities

As always, keep an eye on our Events page *HERE* to stay on top of our shop activities!

Register now for Colorado Weaver's Day, a bi-annual event this year hosted by our very own Rocky Mountain Weaver's Guild!  More information at their website, HERE.

There's a great fiber arts show going on at the Lakewood Campus of Red Rocks right now -- It's called State of the Art and you can find more information at http://www.rrcc.edu/news/2011/122111.htm.

Then, a 4H fiber fair in Loveland on February 25th!  Bring the whole family to see fiber animals and demonstrations of spinning, weaving and other fibery activities. The Fiber Fun Fest is open from 9am to 4pm and is located in the McKee Building at the Ranch in Loveland, I-25 at Exit 259.

Here at the shop, in addition to the Big Move, we'll have our usual Spin In and snack pot-luck on Friday February 10th from 5-8pm, (bring your wheels and spindles!), and our usual Knit Knite (always the 3rd Friday of the month) on Friday February 17th, from 4:30-8pm, with the usual buck-a-slice pizza from Abrusci's. This month these activities will be at our CURRENT location!

Our Community Knitters meet on Thursdays at noon to knit and crochet to benefit Family Tree--this is drop-in, join us any time!

Some useful links for weavers:

2.  Tim's Treadle Reducer

A calculator to find a skeleton tie-up to reduce the number of treadles required for a weaving pattern.

Howdy all you fiber fans!

Okay, so the big question everyone asks when they come in the door, and what you've all been waiting to hear, is when we're planning to move!  Well, (insert drum roll here) it appears that the building will be ready for us the first weekend of March! As you can see, the painters are working hard to get the outside finished during this stretch of nice weather. So we're tentatively scheduling the move for Sunday March 4th.  This is subject to change due to contractor's schedules and the fickle February and March weather, but since we have to start planning this date is as good as we can get for now.  Many of you have volunteered to assist, and you can give us a call or stop in and we'll get your phone number and email to let you know the plan as we get closer. Thank you in advance, and of course thanks to all of you for all your enthusiasm and support of the shop which is making it possible for us to grow!  Watch the building progress on our Facebook page, and you can "like" us there, too.  Remember, we're not going far--just across the street!

Hats!

Maybe you're knitting a hat this weekend (there's a contest, you know!)  and we've found a great tool for calculating size for a simple hat-in-the-round!  It's The Super Simple Circular Hat Calculator and can be found *HERE*, or cut and paste

http://www.earthguild.com//products/knitcroc/marypat/hatcalc.htm into your browser of choice.  Mary has done a great job of simplifying circular hat sizing.

It's a great tool to use for your hat(s) that you're entering into the 6th Annual March Mad Hatter's Hat Contest!  Remember, the deadline for entries is March 1st, and we'll put the hats on display for the following two weeks for you to vote. Winners are determined by popular vote (no electoral college here) and will be announced at our March 16th Knit Knite.  Click *HERE* to find the official rules for entering, or visit our web page at www.recycledlamb.com for all the details.

New Stuff

Our new spring and summer-weight yarns are beginning to arrive and we're just so excited about the new fibers and combinations and colors!

First, from Plymouth, we've got some great stuff, some you'll know and some that're new.  Jeannee, one of our favorite cotton blends, will be arriving this week with new colors and variegations.  Then a new yarn:  it's legal; you don't need a prescription to buy it;  we don't need a license to sell it; and best of all you can take it home with you!  It's called "Grass", and it's a hemp (of course) and cotton blend yarn that has a soft and drapey hand and knits up at 5 stitches per inch on a US #7 needle.

From Berroco, we've got Lago, a viscose (rayon) and linen blend with a lovely sheen and it's machine washable!  Also, Circus, a quick, fun yarn made especially with kids in mind (but don't let that limit you!), and Ric Rack, another new fun scarf yarn.

Noro Taiyo, with silk, cotton, and a little wool, has started dribbling in--we've got one color of 6 so far--and Noro Silk Garden Sock has also finally arrived after a whole year of waiting!

There are lots more yarns scheduled to arrive but we've not gotten shipping notices yet so we'll leave you in suspense until we know these yarns are on their way!

We did get some lovely rosewood nostepinnes for those of you who like to wind your center-pull balls of yarn by hand, and Mountain Colors roving will be here shortly for your spinning pleasure as well!

Books, Books, and more Books!!

But books...oh, so many books!  Instead of listing each one, we think a pictorial depiction of this week's wonderful shipment is better than words!  From socks, to kids, to kumihimo, to spinning, to dyeing, to fair-isle, to felting, we had fun choosing, and though we've gotten a bunch they have not yet all arrived!

Classes for February and March

Click *HERE* to go to our class schedule page and see the full list!

We have the most amazing and talented group of instructors here and each of them want to share their skills and love for their art with you!

For example, Anita is teaching a spinning class for those of you who may have taken a class, or taught yourself, but want to move forward a little more quickly.  Here's what she says about her class WS10, The Confident Spinner:  "Are you stuck in a rut or do you feel like you don't know "enough"? We will explore basic techniques and you'll learn lots of new tips and tricks.  Grow in confidence as you get more comfortable with fiber and fiber preparations, your wheel, and drafting techniques.  You'll be able to tackle that project, large or small, that's been tickling the back of your mind!" Anita's class starts Thursday February 23, and there's still room for you!

If you're not ready yet for this spinning class, Janeen is teaching our Beginning Wheel Spinning class beginning February 23rd, for four weeks, and would love to have you join her class!

Karey's Needlefelting workshop, scheduled for Saturday February 11th, is almost full but there are still two spaces left!  A great fiber technique of sculpting wool with needles (yes we have band-aids handy) and you'll go home with a 3-dimensional character of your own creation.

We have six beginning knitting classes starting in February, if you know someone who is interested in learning to knit let them know this is the place!  And we have five Beyond Beginning Knitting for those of you who have finished the beginning class or have taught yourself and need some help to move on to more challenging projects.

Heather is teaching another session of Two-at-a-time Socks, The Magic Loop!  beginning Wednesday afternoon, 2/15,(and these are a pair of an ACTUAL STUDENT'S pair of socks in progress!  Thanks Sherry!)

and the Cosmo Felted Bag class beginning on Wednesday evening 2/15 from 6-8pm.

Learn Cables with Susie and Double-Knitting (two sides, both beautiful!) with Genevieve, both starting in February and both still with seats available for you!

Unravelling Ravelry, a one-session class to teach you the ins-and-outs of the biggest fiber community social networking site is on Wednesday evening, February 15th--a great on-line spot to go to for socializing, showing-off, finding new designers and patterns, knitting news, knit alongs, project photos, yarn information, a way to organize your own stash and needles and oh so much more!

Remember, to sign up for classes please call the shop at 303-234-9337 and we'll get you on the list.
